Subhash Ghai’s Film Vijeta Runs Into Loss Due To COVID-19, ‘I Can't Deny That Lockdown Has Affected Us Financially’
Coronavirus pandemic has hit the world’s economy badly. The infection which originated in December in Wuhan, China has now taken over the world. Just like everything, shoots and releases of upcoming Bollywood and Hollywood movies have come to a standstill. As it will soon be two months of nation-wide-lockdown, filmmakers say COVID-19 has financially affected the industry big time. If you remember Irrfan Khan’s last film Angrezi Medium ran into a huge loss as theaters and other places were shut by the Maharashtra government due to COVID-19.

Well, that wasn’t the only film, Subash Ghai’s Marathi film, Vijeta, too got affected when theaters went shut in March. Speaking about the same, the filmmaker told Mid-day, “We had a premiere for the film on March 12, a day before its release. But on March 13, the theatre shutdown was announced, and we had to pull the film down. It was unfortunate that it enjoyed only a day of theatrical run. I can't deny that the [lockdown] has affected us financially. It was a major setback for us, but we will fight this out together. We are waiting for the cinemas to re-open; we will release the film again.”

He further added, “I am writing a futuristic film that is set in 2024. Making such a movie is challenging because it is entirely based on one's imagination. We intend to roll by the year-end.” (ALSO READ: INSIDE VIDEO OF Shah Rukh Khan And Gauri Khan Grooving At Subhash Ghai’s 2000 Holi Party Goes Viral)

Last month, we told you Bollywood had incurred a massive loss of Rs 250-300 crore in first-quarter of 2020, with Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji being the only major hit. A report in Hindustan Times stated that with no Eid releases, the second quarter too will be disastrous for the film business. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had then told HT, “The first quarter of 2019 was really bad, and now, with no Eid release, the second quarter has also started on a disastrous note.” (ALSO READ: Coronavirus Outbreak To Inflict A 100 Crore Loss To TV Serials, Movies, OTT: No Shooting From March 19- EXCLUSIVE)
